Ask Kingsbury01 — Getting Started
Planning Your Journey
Start by telling us about your journey through our Plan Your Journey form — where you'd like to go, how you like to travel, and what you're hoping to experience. From there, we shape a route around you and stay in touch as it comes together.
There's no fixed rule — some travellers reach out months ahead, others plan closer to their travel dates. The earlier you start the conversation, the more time we have to shape a journey that fits your dates and interests, so it's worth reaching out as soon as you have a rough idea of when you'd like to travel.
Yes. Every journey starts as a conversation about what you want to see, feel and experience, and we build the route, pace and stops around that — rather than fitting you into a fixed package. Read more about how we work on our About page.
It depends on what you want to cover. A shorter trip can comfortably combine two or three regions, while a longer journey allows you to move slowly across the island's coast, hill country and Cultural Triangle. Tell us your available time and we'll help shape a route that suits it.
Yes — if you're not sure where to start, tell us what draws you to Sri Lanka, whether that's culture, wildlife, beaches, hill country or a mix, and we'll suggest a route that fits your time and interests. Our Destinations and Experiences pages are also a good place to start browsing.
Yes. Planning is a back-and-forth process — once we share a proposed route, you're welcome to ask for changes until the itinerary feels right.
Yes — journeys with Kingsbury Tour (Pvt) Ltd are planned privately around you and the people travelling with you, not as part of a fixed group departure.
02 — Personalized Travel
Tailor-Made Travel
It means the itinerary is built specifically for you — the destinations, pace, accommodation style and experiences are shaped around what you tell us, rather than chosen from a fixed package.
Yes. Once we understand what you're hoping to see and do, we put together a route from Sri Lanka's destinations and experiences that matches your interests — you're welcome to add, remove or adjust as we refine it together.
Yes. Some travellers prefer to cover more ground, others prefer to settle into fewer places for longer. Let us know your preferred pace and we'll shape the itinerary around it.
Yes — many journeys combine several sides of the island in one trip, from a wildlife safari and the hill country's tea estates to ancient heritage sites and the coast. See our Experiences page for the different ways to experience Sri Lanka.
Yes. Whether you're travelling as a couple, with children, or across generations, tell us who's travelling and we'll shape the pace, stops and stays around your group.
Yes — tell us your budget expectations during planning and we'll shape the route, accommodation and pace to work within them, so there are no surprises later.
03 — What You Can Experience
Tours & Experiences
Our featured tours are ready-made routes that show what's possible across the island and are a useful starting point. A tailor-made journey takes one of these as inspiration, or starts from scratch, and is then shaped entirely around your own interests, pace and time.
Sri Lanka can be experienced through culture and heritage, wildlife and safari, the hill country's scenic rail, beaches and coast, food and local life, adventure and nature, slow travel, romance, or family-friendly travel. Explore them all on our Experiences page.
Yes — a train journey through the hill country, including the stretch past the Nine Arch Bridge near Ella, is one of Sri Lanka's most memorable experiences and can be included as part of your route.
Your journey can include destinations across the island — from the ancient cities of the Cultural Triangle to hill country towns, wildlife parks and the coast. Browse the full list on our Destinations page.
Yes — most journeys blend more than one kind of experience, for example a few days of wildlife safari followed by hill country scenery and a stretch of coastline.
Yes — if you'd like unstructured time to relax or explore independently, let us know and we'll build it into the route.
Yes — the tours shown on our Tours page are starting points. Let us know what you'd like to add, remove or change, and we'll adjust it into a journey that's yours.
04 — Getting Around & Staying
Transport & Accommodation
Journeys are typically arranged with private, chauffeur-driven transport between destinations, so you can travel at your own pace without relying on public transport schedules.
Yes, private transport is arranged as part of your journey, including transfers to and from the airport at the start and end of your trip.
Yes — we can suggest and arrange accommodation that fits your journey. Tell us your preferred style and budget during planning, and we'll discuss what's available for your route and dates.
Yes. Whether you prefer boutique stays, larger hotels, eco-lodges or something more comfortable and simple, tell us your preference and we'll shape suggestions around it during planning.
Yes — accommodation suggestions are part of the back-and-forth planning process, so you can ask for alternatives until you're happy with the stays included.
05 — Confirming Your Trip
Booking & Payments
Start with our Plan Your Journey form — it takes you through your travel dates, interests, pace and preferences so we can begin shaping your route.
We review what you've shared and get back to you to discuss your journey in more detail, so we understand exactly what you're hoping for before proposing an itinerary.
We'll reach out using the contact method you select in the planning form — whether that's WhatsApp, email or a phone call.
Once we understand your travel plans, we put together a proposed itinerary along with a quotation for your journey, which we then refine together until it feels right.
Payment details are confirmed with you directly once your itinerary and quotation are finalized, so you know exactly what's included before anything is paid.
If your plans change, get in touch with us as early as possible — we'll talk through the options with you directly, as this can depend on how far into planning or booking your journey is.
06 — Life on the Island
Travelling in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's compact size means different regions have their driest weather at different times of year — the west and south coasts, hill country and Cultural Triangle are generally driest from December to March, while the east coast has its own drier season around April to September. Tell us your travel dates and we'll help plan a route that makes the most of the weather.
Yes — Sri Lanka works well for all kinds of travellers. Because journeys are shaped around you, the pace, stops and stays can be adjusted for a family with children, a couple looking for quieter moments, or someone travelling alone.
It depends on how much of the island you'd like to cover. A shorter trip can focus on one or two regions, while two to three weeks allows a fuller circuit of the coast, hill country and Cultural Triangle. Let us know your available time and we'll shape a route around it.
Sri Lanka is a well-established travel destination that welcomes visitors from around the world. As with travelling anywhere, it's worth using ordinary common sense and checking your home country's latest travel advice before you go.
The local currency is the Sri Lankan rupee. Cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger shops and restaurants in most tourist areas, though it's worth carrying some local cash for smaller purchases, local markets and rural areas.
Sinhala and Tamil are Sri Lanka's official languages, and English is widely spoken within the tourism industry, including by guides and drivers.
07 — Getting Ready
Before You Arrive
Requirements such as visas, entry rules and health recommendations can change, so it's best to check current requirements with the official Sri Lankan government or your home country's travel advisory shortly before you travel, rather than relying on information that may be out of date.
We'd recommend arranging travel insurance for your trip, as with any international travel, to cover things like medical care, delays or lost luggage.
Most international journeys to Sri Lanka arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo. If we've arranged your transport, your driver will be ready to meet you after you clear immigration and collect your luggage.
It's useful to carry some Sri Lankan rupees, alongside your main card, for smaller expenses, tips and local markets.
Sri Lanka is home to several faiths and long-standing traditions. At religious sites, modest dress is expected — shoulders and knees covered — and shoes are usually removed before entering. Your guide or driver can help you navigate local customs as you travel.
As anywhere, it's respectful to ask before photographing someone directly, especially in villages, markets or at religious sites. Most people are happy to say yes when asked politely.
